Vesicular Athlete's Foot

When somebody is said to have vesicular athlete's foot, this means the fungal infection has caused the feet to incur blisters or open sores as part of the symptoms. This is the least common symptom of athlete's foot and the blisters may be present in between the toes, on the sole of the foot or the top of the foot. This happens because of an allergic reaction to the fungi and can be extremely painful. Not only can the blisters appear on the feet, but also other parts of the body too.

In the case of vesicular athlete's foot infections there can be an increased risk of developing a secondary bacterial infection which may make things much worse. If you would rather try to treat your vesicular athlete's foot on your own before seeking medical attention from your doctor, you should utilise some of the following advice:

  • Try to dry out the blisters by using a solution such as Burows, which is available from most pharmacists. This will help to relieve itching and stinging, as well as halt the progress of the fungal infection. To do this you should soak your feet up to three times a day for three days to a week. This should leave the blisters dry and not so fluid-filled.
  • Once the blisters have become dry, you can then begin applying a topical athletes foot cream or spray purchased from the pharmacist. With a bit of luck if you follow the instructions you ought to have your infection cleared up within a month perhaps.

If you find you're feet aren't clearing up, then there is a chance your athlete's foot is more severe than first thought, and also the chance your symptoms of sore feet and the like are been prolonged by secondary infections. If you find your feet aren't healing so easily, you should definitely make the trip to your doctors to have them checked out, relaying to your doctor any treatments you've already tried and for how long. Your doctor will usually prescribe a stronger pill-based medication which is only available on prescription.
