How to Get Athletes Foot

Athletes foot is one of the most common complaints suffered by people, and can result in having sore and irritated feet. Fortunately, athletes foot is highly treatable, and upon taking the correct precautions and medication, you can usually rid yourself of athletes foot within a few weeks.

Among the many ways of how to get athletes foot are:

  • Walking barefoot in changing rooms and shower rooms. The fungi which causes athletes foot thrive in most and warm conditions, and because athletes foot is so contagious, walking around in bare feet is a big no-no.
  • Wearing the same socks for days on end without changing them. Although you may not know this, every time you take off a pair of socks, there are dead skin cells which are stuck to the sock, and there are bacteria and fungi which feed on these dead skin cells. The more you wear the same pair of socks, the more the dead skin cells and fungi accumulate. The more fungi you have on you feet as a result of reusing the same pair of socks, the greater chance you have you feet will break out into a fungal infection such as athletes foot.
  • Not drying your feet properly after washing them. The fungi which causes athletes foot thrives on damp and warm conditions, and feet which have been left damp after washing provides the perfect conditions for the fungi.
  • Wearing footwear which isn't very breathable. People who wear trainers constantly can find they're feet sweat more; this is a major cause of athletes foot. The best way to ensure you're feet don't sweat so much is to wear cotton socks, which absorb much of the sweat, and also to give your feet some air as often as you can. You can do this by taking your footwear off where appropriate or by wearing more breathable footwear such as sandles.
